Dear friends and family,
Cathey and I arrived back in Oklahoma on October 26 and enjoyed a few days with family, including grandson Layne who is 2 years, 3 months, before driving to Mississippi for our Annual BMDMI Mission Conference. We were blessed to be able to stay with precious friends while in Hattiesburg before leaving Monday, November 7th for Jackson where I had my second cataract surgery. It is absolutely great to be able to function without wearing glasses again.
This past weekend we participated in the BMDMI Regional Conference which was held in our home church, First Baptist Claremore, Oklahoma. It was a great time to once again see dear friends who have been such great blessings for so many years. While Cathey and I shared testimonies about our year in Nicaragua we also were blessed to hear testimonies from several other of our BMDMI missionaries. It is overwhelming apparent from the testimonies we heard that the ministry belongs to the Lord as over and over He showed His hand of direction, protection and provision.
This past Sunday, I had the privilege of teaching a Bible study class of twenty-five, seventh and eighth graders. They were totally attentive for 45 minutes. Because I came to Christ when I was twelve, I know how important this age can be as children begin making the transition to adolescence and become aware of their need for Christ. I left the kids by telling them that participation in a mission trip to Nicaragua can be a life-changing experience and a great opportunity to see how most of our world's population live.
Cathey is scheduled to speak in several Christian schools while we are home to raise awareness for prayer and financial support of her ministry at Mount of Olives Christian School in Nicaragua. She also has been blessed to have received donations for her Women's Ministry in Nicaragua. A part of her Women's Ministry has been involving Nicaraguan leaders from our BMDMI churches in a women's prison ministry once a month at a prison near Granada, Nicaragua.
I will be traveling to Elizabethtown, Kentucky this next week to speak at another BMDMI Regional Conference and meet with a newly formed BMDMI Team. Cathey and I are open to speak where ever the door is open; to schools, mission groups, Sunday School classes, churches, etc. While our schedule is filling up, we still have openings.
Cathey will be returning to Nicaragua the 7th of December for the graduations at the Mount of Olives Christian School where she is the administrator and founder. She is scheduled to return to Oklahoma the 14th of December.
The presidential elections were held in Nicaragua this past November 8th. Current president, Daniel Ortega, was reelected for another five year term. We are praying that politically, things will settle down in the coming months and that all of the Team approval processes we go through will be facilitated, i.e. take less time. Our earnest prayers are also for peace and a continued open door to sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Christ.
As Cathey and I reflect on our fifteen-plus years for fulltime ministry in Nicaragua, we are overcome with thankfulness to the Lord for He has been with us every step of the way. We are thankful for the many friends and family members that have blessed our lives through prayer, traveling to Nicaragua on teams or for special projects, working here at home in a variety of ways, giving financially to the ministry, and many other very personal ways. We are truly blessed and we are thankful!
We pray for you that this Thanksgiving season will truly be that for each of you.
